"The Pop Cycle is a Seattle area power pop group featuring Brett Richards, Paul Swegle, David Thompson, & Jim Freeman"

The Pop Cycle is a power pop foursome featuring Brett Richards and David Thompson on guitars, Paul Swegle on drums and Jim Freeman on bass. We play a mix of originals and covers drawn from several decades of the power pop genre, including songs by Big Star, The Who, The Records, The Kinks, Cheap Trick, Beatles, etc. - the list goes on and on and on. Our main goal with the Pop Cycle is to have a heck of a lot of fun, rock hard, and celebrate the music that means something to us. While Brett and David handle the lion's share of the lead vocals for the group, the rest of us have their backs with harmonies and might even sing lead on a tune or two ourselves. Brett came to the great NW from Atlanta about a decade ago after a long tenure as the lead guitar player for the critically acclaimed Hanging Francis. Since that time he's kicked it locally with his own StarChief , plus Harvest (a northwest tribute to Neil Young), and most recently with Jim in All Mixed Up, a casino/summer festival 80's cover band. Berklee trained David adds a layer of beautiful vocal harmonies and melodic color to our already full sound. His already illustrious musical career includes singer/songwriter/guitarist of the successful Boston band The Pills and most recently Seattle's The Scheme. Paul, TPC's newest member, is a native Seattle-ite who owned and operated Latona Studios near Greenlake. His bands Go Man Go and Smoking Jacket were big in the bar scene in the 90s, followed by a heavier band called VOL that Paul put together during the grunge era. After moving to D.C. and dominating the scene with rock trio Anne Summers, Paul came back to Seattle roughly a decade ago and has been playing with a variety of popular local bands, like the Boxcar Tramps(now, the Rolling Blackouts) and rockabilly band Billy Dwayne and the Creepers. In addition to All Mixed Up, Jim has been performing in and all around Seattle with a variety of local groups over the years, including The Seamonkees, '63 Burnout, and The Wild Snohomians.
