GLASSPIRITS is an American experimental rock band duo from La Puente, California, whose members are Joanna Glass (vocals, guitar, keyboard and violin) and Abe Perez (drums, congas, and percussion). Their SOUND could be described as the mix between the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Muse with afro-cuban influences and a twist of classical and electronic music.They recently had a soft RELEASE of their debut LP, Mysteries of Rhythm: Dusk in June of 2016. They plan to distribute physical and digital copies of Mysteries in a major release in the winter of 2016. Glasspirits are highly trained professional musicians with fresh, melodic rock songs with an energetic live show. JOANNA GLASS is a classically trained musician, recording engineer, composer and arranger. She started playing music by learning the violin when she was 9 years old and continued until she was a Violin Performance major at Cole Conservatory, in Long Beach. She has since played in orchestras, recording sessions and toured in the UK with signed artist Betty Steeles.
At 14, Joanna started attending Long Beach City College’s Recording Engineering program while she was in high school and graduated from their program in 2005. She owned a music production studio, recording music for video game composers and mixed sound for the film ‘A Promise’ that was featured at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. She produced and engineered GLASSPIRITS’s album Mysteries of Rhythm. Joanna writes many of GLASSPIRITS’ songs, sings, plays the violin, guitar, keyboard and has a passion for arts and designed the album cover.
ABE PEREZ was born in Cuba. He also plays congas, cajon and other percussion. Abe started playing drums at 9 years old and professionally while he in Jr. High School. He formed an all original band, Yankee Rose, which was signed by Satellite Records and produced by Greg Geddes (of Todd Rundgren). Yankee Rose played shows with Van Halen, Quiet Riot and many other big bands. Abe has also played with John Nelson, (former Eddy Money guitarist), Sky Furies (a Vegas show band that was produced by famous producer HB Barnum [who produced Aretha Franklin, Tom Jones, et. al] and had a daily residency at the famous Roosevelt Hotel), “Come and Get Your Love” hit-makers Raven Hernandez of Redbone, Jimmy Espinosa and other members of Thee Midnighters.
Abe is endorsed by Spaun Drums, Scymtek Cymbals, Beato Bags, DB drum shoes, and most recently, Diamondback Drumsticks. He works as an independent drummer for hire for live/touring/recording. Abe has toured extensively and recorded on many albums. He is also a talented arranger and adds many of his ideas to Joanna’s songs in GLASSPIRITS.
