Mai Agan (born 1988) is an Estonian electric bass player and composer based in Los Angeles, California. Her tireless work ethic, astonishing creativity, melodic bass playing and versatility has raised her name among the world’s top musicians. Agan is hailed as a music chameleon, moving effortlessly from pop, folk, country and funk to jazz and blues. Despite her young age she has shared the stage with some of the biggest names on the scene: David Crosby, Greg Leisz, Jackson Browne, Joan Baez, Seal and David Foster to name a few. Mai was born and raised in Kuressaare, on an island Saaremaa, Estonia. She played the violin for 8 years and first touched the bass at the age of 16. After her music studies in Tallinn, she moved to Stockholm, Sweden where she lived and studied for 7. In Sweden she started gaining wider exposure with her own jazz-fusion group MaiGroup as well as freelancing with different jazz bands and pop artists: Linnea Henriksson, Petra Marklund, Carola, Brady Blade, Norrbotten Big Band, New Places Orchestra, Ebbot Lundberg, Sisters of Invention, Robert Nordmark, Stockholm Strings, as well as Estonian legends Tõnis Mägi, Riho Sibul, Jaak Johanson etc.MaiGroup has released two albums: “Luv” (2013) and “You” (2015) consisting of original compositions written, arranged and produced by Agan. She is also leading Agan/Broström Spirit together with Swedish jazz music hardware Håkan Broström and their debut concert at Stockholm Jazz Festival 2015 was ranked as no 1 highlight by Swedish media as well as recorded by the Swedish Radio. In 2015-2016 she recorded for the upcoming album “Sky Trails” (release spring 2017) of one of her long time musical heroes - American singer, songwriter and guitarist, a two-time member of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - David Crosby, from The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash .In late March 2016 Agan was part of the Estonian delegation to official state visit to Zagreb, Croatia with The President of Estonia - Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Mrs. Ieva Ilves. In May 2016 she entertained when Mr. President hosted Finnish President Sauli Niinistö.
